Health Care

The provincial and federal governments fund health care in Saskatoon and throughout Saskatchewan. Basic and needed health care services are provided to residents at no cost. Health care premiums do not exist.

The Saskatoon Health Region provides various health care services and plays a major role in education and research.

Hospitals

Three acute teaching hospitals exist within Saskatoon, each specializing in specific areas.

Saskatoon City Hospital specializes in:

  • Rehabilitative medicine;
  • Gynecology;
  • Eye care;
  • Adult mental health services;
  • Elective surgery;
  • Geriatric assessment.

St. Paul's Hospital specializes in:

  • General surgery;
  • Internal medicine;
  • Dialysis;
  • 24-hour emergency services.

Royal University Hospital (RUH) specializes in:

  • Major trauma;
  • Maternal and child services;
  • Neurosurgery;
  • Cardiovascular surgery;
  • Youth mental health services;
  • 24-hour emergency services.

Saskatoon Health Region provides additional programs and services, such as:

  • Long term care;
  • Home care;
  • Public health;
  • Community-based programs.
