Saskatoon has a well-developed health sciences industry and is home to companies specializing pharmaceuticals, telehealth, health informatics, medical devices, and bio-based health industries.

Health care is one of Saskatchewan's largest employers. This industry provides employment for approximately 10,000 of the province's residents. Approximately one in every 10 employed individuals in this province is involved in delivering some form of health-related service.

Researchers at the University of Saskatchewan have been awarded grants in for developing a new vaccine to fight well-established cancer tumours, creating an effective treatment for marijuana addicts and formulating gene therapies that protect the heart from damage during heart attacks.
