The Saskatoon region has a diverse and booming economy with key sectors that include manufacturing, mining, life sciences, logistics (transportation and warehousing), and information (information technology and telecommunications).

Mining and exploration continue to be significant industry sectors in the Saskatoon region with a focus on potash, uranium, gold and diamonds. Two of the world's largest mining companies have their head offices in Saskatoon.

Saskatoon, known as "Canada's Science City," is world renowned for its incomparable mix of scientific infrastructure. Two important components of this infrastructure are the city's highly successful research park, Innovation Place and the Canadian Light Source (CLS) Synchrotron, one of only six, third-generation synchrotrons in the world and the only one in Canada.

The manufacturing sector is also important because there is a strong cluster of companies within the industry and it is one of the largest sectors in Saskatoon.
