Community Economic Development Apprentice – One Year Work Term
The Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority is currently seeking a Community Economic Development Apprentice to assist in the economic and business development activities in the Saskatoon Region.The Community Economic Development Apprentice will be responsible to:
• Assist in the implementation of SREDA’s Strategic Plan that aligns with the Saskatoon Region’s long-term vision for growth and development
• Collaborate with municipal departments, governments, developers, local organizations and stakeholders to facilitate business growth and expansion
• Promote and assist in the development of initiatives that will attract new businesses to the Saskatoon Region
• Work with the existing business community to maintain and ensure future success and Growth
Desired qualifications include:
A degree or diploma in economics, business administration, commerce, urban planning or public administration with minimal work experience in economic/business development and municipal services is preferable. A combination of relevant education and/or experience in a related field may also be considered.
The position is funded through partnering organizations and as such, specific candidate requirements must be met to satisfy funding requirements. In addition to the desired qualifications, the successful candidate must also be:
-Under the age of 35 years of age at time of application with a strong desire to pursue a career in business/economic or community development; and
-An Aboriginal candidate, with preference given to Registered Status Indian or Inuit applicants.
The qualified candidate must also possess:
• A solid understanding of economic development practices
• Familiarity with various levels of governments on economic development projects and regional initiatives
• Excellent communication skills including presentation and document writing skills
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills
