Saskatoon offers many opportunities and advantages to business. A large part of Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority Inc.'s mission is to create awareness of the business opportunities and resources that are available to local companies and organizations around the world. Our team of economic development professionals is dedicated to helping companies find the information they need to thoroughly evaluate the Saskatoon region.

SREDA is focused on building the following five targeted industrial sectors:
  • Information (information technology and telecommunications);
  • Life sciences (bioprocessing, biotechnology, health sciences, natural health products and pharmaceuticals);
  • Logistics (transportation and warehousing);
  • Manufacturing (food processing, metal fabricating/machining, value-added agriculture processing);
  • Mining (mining supply and service).

Business Retention and Expansion

SREDA has developed programs and strategies to assist existing businesses with their continued growth:

Expansion Assistance
SREDA staff provide location assistance, negotiation of applicable incentives and facilitation of project financing to promote the development of existing industry within the Saskatoon region.

Marketing and Promotion
SREDA markets the products and skills of local companies through our online supplier database. SREDA promotes the move from research and development to product commercialization, adding to our technology industry base.

Business Directory
Creates awareness of products made in the Saskatoon region. It also creates awareness of imported products that have potential to be produced locally.

The Business Directory includes information on more than 700 local industrial companies operating in five key industries:

  • Information (information technology and telecommunications);

  • Logistics (transportation and warehousing);

Customized Proposals and Tours
SREDA works with companies considering the Saskatoon region as a location by introducing the company to the opportunities and advantages of locating in Saskatoon. SREDA staff identify incentives, potential sites, suppliers and investors. When required, clients can use in-house resources to access customized research such as tax comparisons and cost evaluations between specific cities.

Prospecting Missions
SREDA coordinates prospecting missions to meet with companies that may have present or future interest in locating in the Saskatoon region. Potential industry expansions and relocations are made through prospecting missions and trade shows, as well as through targeted marketing brochures and advertisements to companies around the world.

Working with Local Business
SREDA works with local business people to promote the region nationally and internationally and to identify companies that might benefit from expanding to the Saskatoon region.

Improving Services to Business

Continual improvement is the key to long-term success. The Saskatoon region has a solid and attractive infrastructure. Making it even better will assist businesses in their ability to develop and expand. SREDA works with many partners to facilitate this crucial area of community development.

SREDA works with government to improve business conditions, including tax and labour climate.

Community Partners
SREDA works with community partners and industry leaders to explore the ongoing development of local transportation services, industrial parks, technology incubators and the commercialization of new technologies.

Aboriginal Business
SREDA works with Aboriginal businesses to increase their local presence and provide a forum to create strategic alliances and other partnerships.
